Flora Kerimova Alakbar gizi (Azerbaijani: Flora Kərimova Ələkbər qızı; July 23, 1941, Baku) - Azerbaijani Estrada singer, People's Artist of Azerbaijan.[1]
Flora Kerimova was born on July 23, 1941, in Baku. In 1965, she entered Medical Institute named after Nariman Narimanov to medical business faculty and studied there till 1971. Then, from 1972 to 1977, she studied in Conservatory at vocal class, where she strengthened her voice to 4 octaves. In the beginning of 1960’s Flora Kerimova began her variety activity in Azerbaijan. For the first time she performed in October, 1960, on the stage of Azerbaijan State Philharmonic Hall. Her repertoire includes lyrical compositions, but the singer performed and performs rhythmical compositions. Flora Kerimova loved to work with composer Emin Sabitoglu, who composed beautiful lyrical songs for her.[2]
Besides the songs of Emin Sabitoglu, Flora Kerimova’s repertoire includes songs of Ramiz Mirishli, Tofig Guliyev, Aygun Samedzade, Kamal, Khanim Ismayilgizi and many other composers. In 1983, Flora Kerimova became the soloist of Azerbaijan State Television. Flora Kerimova is one of the popular singers of Azerbaijani Estrada during decades. She recorded and released more than 20 solo albums. In 1992, Flora Kerimova was awarded People’s Artist of Azerbaijan title. Flora Kerimova was the first singer of independent Azerbaijan who was awarded this title.
